The two short exercises A and B alternate thumb and index finger to prepare the balance needed in Tárrega's arpeggios. Each has seven bars. Finish A, then start B; there is no automatic repeat. The app's practice tempo is 60 quarter notes per minute.
Skills to prepare
- Even p-i arpeggios
Before learning the piece
- App checkpoint: play eight even p-i pairs on two open strings, three times without tension. Practise this skill.
- App checkpoint: bring out a treble note above a softer bass, five times in a row. Practise this skill.
These checkpoints belong to our learning path. They do not set a deadline for your progress.
Tablature and fingerings

Your phrase-by-phrase plan
Work on a short passage. Aim for five clean attempts in a row, then connect two phrases. Bar numbers follow our transcription, including a separately numbered pickup where applicable.
Phrase 1 · bars 1–2
Alternate p and i at the same volume in each pair.
Phrase 2 · bars 3–4
Keep the same spacing between p and i as the arpeggio rises.
Phrase 3 · bars 5–6
Let the thumb move across the bass strings without adding an accent.
Phrase 4 · bar 7
Keep the final p-i pair as even as the first.
Phrase 5 · bars 8–9
Keep the p-i pattern steady as the bass descends.
Phrase 6 · bars 10–11
Keep your index finger as light on string 1 as on the inner strings.
Phrase 7 · bars 12–13
Keep the last bass soft when the thumb reaches string 6.
Phrase 8 · bar 14
Play the last p-i pair with the same balance of volume.
