Every tablature on this site should let you trace the music back to the edition used. The source list on each piece page identifies the score or catalogue record. Our string choices, fingerings, phrase divisions and practice tempos are editorial decisions for learning the piece.
The score and the learning arrangement
Some transcriptions follow historical engravings. Where a later edition is used under a licence, the piece page identifies that source and its attribution. Isabel, for example, adapts Tony Wilkinson’s 2010 edition under CC BY 3.0; its source list explains that the tablature, fingerings, voices and numbering have been changed. Do not assume that every arrangement or every edition shares the same terms.
The written bar count follows our transcription. Pickups, alternative endings and repeated passages can make it differ from the number of bars you hear in a complete performance. Read the phrase instructions and the repeat signs together.
What the player can tell you
The synthetic playback helps you count, slow a passage down and follow the fingering. It does not replace the timing, colour or phrasing of a live performance. Compare the musical line with the selected recordings, allowing for differences between editions and performers.
How videos are checked
The team checks video links and their metadata. This does not mean every recording has been watched from beginning to end. The note beside each video explains what to listen for. External videos load only when you choose to open them, and they require an internet connection.
